Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden has agreed to a $15 million paycut for next season, which would allow the team to elevate their roster in preparation for the 2022-22 campaign, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
According to the report, Harden opted out of his $47 million player option and plans to sign a new two-year deal with the Sixers, with a player option for the second year.
As Charania notes, Harden’s primary focus is a championship run in 2023, and his close relations with the organization, which include Michael Rubin and Daryl Morey, have played an important role in building trust between him and the team.
Harden joined the Sixers in early 2022 via a blockbuster trade from the Brooklyn Nets and averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 assists, and 7.1 rebounds across 21 games.
