While being named NBA MVP is one of Luka Doncic’s goals, the Dallas Mavericks superstar doesn’t compare it with winning the championship title.
“Well, that’s the goal that every player who comes to the NBA has,” Doncic said in an interview with Marca from Paris, France. The Slovenian player was a special guest at the Quai 54 streetball event. “Not everyone can say that he’s the NBA MVP. Of course, I don’t trade a ring for it, but if I can win the MVP it’d be amazing.”
When asked about the rate he’s setting new records, Doncic once again mentioned that this is something he’s not that occupied with in comparison with winning. “The subject of records is not something that obsesses or attracts me. What I seek is to win.”
Doncic also commented on how longtime Real Madrid head coach Pablo Laso was dismissed by the club recently for health reasons. Laso was Doncic’s coach at Real Madrid from 2015 until 2018 when the player left for the NBA, playing a key part in the Slovenian star’s development and growth.
“I can’t understand what happened,” Doncic said. “Pablo is a great coach and an excellent person. I think it shouldn’t have been like that”
“Yes, of course,” Doncic replied when asked if he considers his dismissal to be unfair. “There are a lot of people who think like that because of everything Pablo has given for Madrid after 11 seasons. I think he’s the best coach Real Madrid has ever had for sure.”
