Celtics enter talks for Kevin Durant

The Boston Celtics are the latest NBA team to emerge as a suitor for Kevin Durant. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston has been in talks with the Brooklyn Nets to potentially land the former MVP and 12-time All-Star and their discussions are “regular.”

There’s no shortage of players that the Celtics could offer for Durant save for All-NBA forward and All-Star Jayson Tatum, who is the only one untouchable. The 2022 NBA runner-ups also have other assets such as multiple first-round picks and pick swaps that can pair up with someone like swingman Jaylen Brown in order to make an appealing trade offer.

Apart from the Celtics, so far the Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns and the Toronto Raptors have shown interest in possibly getting Durant and none of those teams has presented a package that is close to what Brooklyn asks to let Durant go.

In 2021-22, Durant averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and a career-high 6.4 assists in the regular season. The two-time NBA champion (2017, 2018) with the Golden State Warriors requested to be traded in June.
