It has been a month since it was first reported that Kevin Durant wants out of the Brooklyn Nets and has requested to be traded to another team. The former two-time NBA champion and MVP has been linked with multiple teams but so far there’s no swap on the horizon that will take him out of Brooklyn.
In order to give someone who’s considered by many as the best player in the NBA right now, the Nets can ask for a package that will include highly valuable assets like prominent stars, and first-round picks. It’s a complicated case and an extremely difficult trade to accomplish and perhaps this is why the Nets are now hoping that Durant will decide to stay with them, as ESPN’s Zach Lowe reports.
Per Lowe:
Even before the Minnesota Timberwolves warped the trade market by flipping five draft assets for Rudy Gobert, several smart people around the league termed the very act of trading Durant “impossible” in conversations with ESPN. There was no way to approximate fair value. A player of Durant’s caliber with so many years locked in had never before become available.
The Nets are probably waiting for Durant’s camp to realize that, and maybe for Durant to retract his trade request. The Nets have not given up on this scenario, sources say.
One of the teams that were reported to be interested in Kevin Durant was the Boston Celtics and it was mentioned that they were even willing to offer everyone, except their marquee player Jayson Tatum.
