NBA investing Knicks for tampering

The NBA opened an investigation into the New York Knicks regarding the pursuit and acquisition of guard Jalen Brunson as Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported first. The league is probing into the whole procedure and whether or not the Knicks broke the organization’s tampering rules.

This isn’t the only 2022 offseason signing that the NBA checks for possible tampering since there also an investigation involving the Philadelphia 76ers (the re-signing of James Harden, plus the additions of P.J. Tucker and Danuel House).

According to these NBA tampering rules, teams can’t approach players or their representatives before 6 p.m. on June 30 when the free agency begins. The NBA will look if such a thing happened with the Knicks and Brunson and if the two sides were in contact before the permitted time and date.

Brunson signed a four-year, 104 million contract with the Knicks and it was reported that the player and the team have reached this agreement way before June 30. The team made multiple trades to generate the necessary cap space for such a deal.

In June, the Knicks hired Jalen Brunson’s father Rik as an assistant to head coach Tom Thibodeau.
