A check at the airport led Iman Shumpert to be arrested over the weekend.

Shumpert, 32, admitted to carrying marijuana in his backpack at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The authorities found 6.12 ounces of marijuana in a plastic bag, as noted by TMZ Sports. The 2016 NBA champion and veteran of 540 NBA games was handcuffed and taken to the airport jail without incident.

Searching his backpack also revealed a Glock magazine and fourteen 9mm rounds. However, he did not have a gun.

The arrest was classified as a State Jail Felony, as described in the report on his arrest. A possible conviction can result in two years in jail and a $10K fine.

The winner of Season 30 of the American dance competition television series Dancing with the Stars was heading to Los Angeles to visit his daughter.

On a ten-day contract, Shumpert last played in the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets appearing in a couple of games of the 2020-21 NBA Regular Season. He won the NBA championship as a player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Other teams of his career are the Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings, and Houston Rockets.

Foregoing his senior year of NCAA eligibility, the former Georgia Tech star was picked up by the Knicks with the 17th overall selection in the 2011 NBA draft. Four years later, he was traded to the Cavs, and teaming up with LeBron James produced the crowning achievement of his career. He settled in briefer stints at Sacramento, Houston, and Brooklyn.
