Dennis Schroder is officially returning to the Los Angeles Lakers for his second stint with the team after 2020-21. The 17-time NBA champions weren’t the only franchise that was interested in acquiring Schroder and the German star picked them over two clubs: The Toronto Raptors and the Phoenix Suns.
According to Shams Charania, Schroder “was deciding between a few teams, the Lakers, the Raptors, as well as the Phoenix Suns,” while still being a free agent. Eventually, the German guard signed with the Lakers for the reported one-year, $2.64 million deal.

After the completion of 2020-21, Schroder to turn down a, four-year, $84 million contract extension offer by the Lakers, only to end up signing a one-year, $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds at Boston before he got traded to the Houston Rockets in February.
Right now, Schroder is competing for a medal with Germany in the 2022 EuroBasket. He had 30 points and eight assists in the semifinal against Spain but his efforts couldn’t prevent a loss for the German side due to a lackluster fourth period.
Schroder and his national team will face Poland in the third-place game and will try to win Germany’s first medal in basketball competition since the silver of the 2005 EuroBasket. The 29-year-old guard averages 21.6 points, 7.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds in the tournament.
