From developments on the head-coaching front and Ime Udoka being suspended for the 2022-23 season to a couple of players having surgery. That kind of week for the Boston Celtics.

Danilo Gallinari underwent surgery to repair his torn left ACL. Boston did not reveal a timetable for the Italian forward. But he is expected to remain sidelined for the entire 2022-23 season.

Gallinari, 34, was hurt playing for Italy in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. He was immediately ruled out for the 2022 EuroBasket. Earlier in the offseason, he signed a two-year, $13.3M contract to join the Celtics.

Per the press release: “The Boston Celtics announced today that forward Danilo Gallinari underwent successful left knee revision ACL repair. The surgery was performed by Celtics Team Physician Dr. Tony Schena at New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Schena was assisted by Dr. Paul Weitzel, with Dr. Brian Cole also consulting on the case. Further updates regarding Gallinari’s recovery will be provided as appropriate.”

Robert Williams III underwent surgery as well. Reportedly missing 4-6 weeks, he was officially projected to resume basketball activities in approximately 8-12 weeks.

Per the press release: “The Boston Celtics announced today that center Robert Williams underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure to remove loose bodies and address swelling in his left knee. The surgery was performed by Celtics Team Physician Dr. Tony Schena at New England Baptist Hospital. Williams is expected to return to basketball activities in 8-12 weeks.”

With numbers shrinking, Croatian power forward Luka Samanic will pen a contract for the training camp, hoping to earn a spot on the 2022-23 roster. He was selected 19th overall in the 2019 NBA draft but was limited to 36 games with the San Antonio Spurs and was waived before the 2021-22 season.
