Heading to the training camp and from there to the 2022-23 NBA season, Bogdan Bogdanovic will mainly focus on the final phase of his recovery.
Bogdanovic, 30, underwent surgery on his right knee in May, following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. The Hawks then announced he was expected to make a full recovery before the start of the new season. Updating his status during the preseason press conference, general manager Landry Fields mentioned he is ‘not going to be 100% for the training camp’ and added the goal is to have him at 100% for the Regular Season, relays Brad Rowland.
Despite not being fully healthy, logging minutes on the court in preseason games remains a possibility. At the end of the day, the plan is for Bogdanovic to be cleared at some point in the 2022-23 season.
Barring an unexpected setback, the Serbian guard will eventually be cleared for his sixth campaign in the NBA and third season in Atlanta. In 2021-22, he averaged averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest over 67 appearances between the Regular Season and the Playoffs.
During the offseason, he was spotted working out in both the USA and Serbia, expanding into on-court drills one month ago. Due to the surgery, the Serbia senior national team ruled him out for the 2022 EuroBasket and 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers stuffing the summer international schedule.
Playing for Fenerbahce, Bogdanovic was crowned EuroLeague champion in 2017, before moving on to the NBA and the Sacramento Kings. Three years later, he joined the Hawks.
