Victor Wembanyama showed the USA crowd why the hype around him is as real as it can get and why he’s the undisputed favorite to be selected No. 1 in the 2023 NBA Draft.
In his first appearance in the USA and in front of approximately 200 NBA scouts and executives, Wembanyama had 37 points, five blocks and four rebounds over 33 minutes in a Levallois-Metropolitans 115 – 122 loss to the NBA G-League Invite and Scoot Henderson (28 points, nine assists, five rebounds). The latter is Wembanyama’s biggest competition in the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Wembanyama hit 7-11 3-pointers and made jumpers overall with notable ease and poise, displaying the “unguardable” factor he carries. He had several impressive plays in which he combined dominant defenses with scoring, moving quickly from one side of the floor to the other.
It was in the second half when Wembanyama went particularly off, draining multiple shots, as Metropolitans erased a 20-point deficit to go up in the score. The G-League Ignite retook the lead and held on down the stretch against another flurry of Wembanyama buckets.
