A heated interaction marked Wednesday’s practice. The Golden State Warriors are dealing with an early-season incident centered on Draymond Green and Jordan Poole.
Green, 32, argued with and eventually hit his teammate and they needed to be separated with tempers rising, per The Athletic. A fight during the 2022 NBA Preseason for the reigning NBA champions. The Warriors are seriously considering disciplinary action toward the four-time NBA champion for his role in the physical altercation, as noted.
Additional reports spilled in attempting to explain the issue between Green and Poole stemming from both being up for contract extensions creating competition in the training camp. Talking about his contract in the annual preseason Media Day, Green seemed to be settled in not getting an extension this season and heading to a decision on his player option for the 2023-24 season.
Green has spent his entire NBA career playing for the Warriors since being picked up with the 35th selection of the 2012 draft. Besides the four championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, he was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, got four All-Star Game nods, and received All-NBA Second and Third Team selections in 2016 and 2017.
Poole, 23, is instead entering his fourth NBA campaign after being selected by the Warriors with the 28th overall pick of the 2019 draft. He was lifted to a prominent role for the 2021-22 season emerging as another solid two-way player for the team coached by Steve Kerr.
