Making it clear, Paul George submitted to sitting behind Kawhi Leonard on the hierarchy of the Los Angeles Clippers.
“Kawhi is the No. 1, and I’m totally fine with that. I try to compliment him to take the load off of him,” he said after the preseason loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday, “I’ll publicly say I’m the 2. Kawhi is the 1, I am the 2. That part we nipped in the bud. There’s no ego when it comes to that.”
George, 32, went for 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block over 23 minutes against the Timberwolves. But the Clippers fell to 2-1 in the 2022 NBA Preseason.
“I believe in my talent and what I can do. I believe on any night in what I’m capable of. But I feel my job is to make everyone better,” he told gathered reporters at Crypto.com Arena, “That is what I try to do on the floor, just make the game easy for everybody.”
Leonard, 31, is finally back in action gearing up for the 2022-23 Regular Season. He missed the entire 2021-22 season recovering from the injury in his right knee. His second preseason showing produced eight points and two assists in 16 minutes.
“We’re both unselfish,” he commented on playing alongside George, “My 12th year, his 13th year. We’ve been through this before, so I feel like just having those years under our belt and, obviously, we have a genuine relationship, and it just carries over.”
