Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo emphasized that one of his goals for the 2022-23 season is to personally ensure on the court that his teammates will be heavily involved with game action.
And he’s prepared to make some “sacrifices” to enable that.
“I definitely want to be more aggressive,” Giannis said after the 90 – 88 away win over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Bucks‘ season opener. “But at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. I didn’t have to be aggressive for 48 minutes to win the game today. I came to this season with the mindset of trusting my teammates. Moving the ball and sharing the ball. Sacrificing as much as I have to sacrifice in order to get everybody involved and get everybody where they need to be. If that helps me win games, I’m the first guy to do that.
Antetokounmpo flirted with the triple-double against the Sixers. He finished 21 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, while also registering three blocks and committing just one turnover during the 36 minutes he spent on the floor.
“It’s not about me,” Antetokounmpo added. “I’m over me. I’m OK with me. And I’m happy for Wes [Matthews] knocking down shots down the stretch, Grayson [Allen] making plays down the stretch, Brook [Lopez] being Brook. And me and Jrue [Holiday] just do what we have to to help those guys and the team win games.”
Giannis and the Bucks are returning to Milwaukee to face the Houston Rockets Saturday (22/10).
