James Harden has long since established himself as one of the most unstoppable players on the planet when he gets his rhythm going. And one who truly considers him as such is San Antonio Spurs’ legendary coach Gregg Popovich.
“He’s a special player. Nobody stops him. When he gets stopped, he stops himself,” Popovich said on Harden before Saturday’s game between the Spurs and the Philadelphia 76ers, per Justin Grasso. “Either he’s not engaged or maybe he’s not in the greatest shape at that time, but when he’s in shape and he’s ready to play, he’s a special dude. Without any doubt.”
“He’s gonna get 50,” Popovich predicted but he was a bit off. Harden finished with 12 points on 4-18 shots in a 105 – 114 loss for the Sixers. He also contributed 12 assists and nine rebounds.
Popovich has expressed his admiration for Harden several times, calling him “ridiculous.” When the 2018 NBA MVP was playing for the Houston Rockets, Popovich mentioned that they are the only opponent who watches on tape, specifically because of Harden.
