In Friday’s game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors, Luka Doncic scored 35 points to extend his streak with 30-point+ performances to eight consecutive matches beginning the 2022-23 season.
This is a kind of feat that hadn’t happened in the NBA since 1962 and has been overall accomplished twice and by only one player before Doncic: Wilt Chamberlain.
Chamberlain began 1959-60 with 30+ points in all of his first eight games and then repeated that streak in 1962. No one else ever started a season with so many straight matches with 30 or more points until Doncic this year.
So far this season, Doncic had 35 points vs. the Phoenix Suns in the opener (a loss) and then scored 32 against the Memphis Grizzlies (win), 37 against the New Orleans Pelicans (loss), 41 against the Brooklyn Nets (win), 31 against the Oklahoma City Thunder (loss), 44 against the Orlando Magic (win), 33 against the Utah Jazz (win) and 35 against the Raptors (win).
Doncic is leading the NBA in scoring with 36.0 points. The Slovenian superstar is also averaging 8.8 rebounds and 8.6 assists.
