The Brooklyn Nets announced that interim head coach Jacque Vaughn has been promoted to take over the job permanently. Vaughn has been coaching the team since Steve Nash was fired on November 1st.
The Nets were briefly rumored to be considering former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka for the post.
Per Nets:
The Brooklyn Nets have named Jacque Vaughn as head coach.
“Jacque’s basketball acumen, competitiveness, and intimate knowledge of our team and organization make him the clear-cut best person to lead our group moving forward,” said General Manager Sean Marks. “He has a proven ability to get the best out of our players, hold them accountable and play a cohesive, team-first style of basketball.”
This will be Vaughn’s second head coach stint after his 2012-2015 run with the Orlando Magic. He served also as an interim head coach on the Nets after the team parted ways with Kenny Atkinson in 2020 and before Nash was hired.
As a player, Vaughn won the NBA championship title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. He started his coaching career as an assistant to Gregg Popovich in 2010.
