The Dallas Mavericks beat the Houston Rockets 112-106 on the road, and Luka Doncic had his best game of the season with 50 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds.
He also shot 17/30 from the field, with 6/12 from deep and 10/12 at the charity stripe. This is his second-ever NBA game with at least 50 points.
“Sometimes you know you’re going to make more shots than usual. When you feel hot, you feel like everything will go in”, Luka Doncic said after the win, joking about his steals as well. “It’s tough to play these kinds of games. My teammates trusted me, Houston has a young team with a lot of talent. Do you see those 3 steals? It should be 4!”, he said laughing.
“Luka is Luka. He’s the best player in the world. He showed that tonight, carrying the load offensively. I don’t know what else to say about him. He was incredible tonight. His performance was a great Christmas gift on a long road trip”, coach Jason Kidd said of his player.
Then, he went on to talk about the shot to secure the victory, made by Luka once again. “We swing the ball, and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) redrives it from the corner and finds Luka wide open. Luka does the rest. When you’re hot like that, sometimes you don’t have to move the ball. Someone else did all the work for him, and the ball found him”, he added.
Stephen Silas, head coach of the Houston Rockets, also talked about the Slovenian phenomenon. “I’m not sure that he made an easy shot. We made every shot hard, and that’s the greatness of a great player. That’s what Luka does”, he said.
The former Real Madrid player is averaging 32.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists shooting 49.4% from the field, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 17-16 record.
