San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich mentioned that the defensive goal of his team ahead of facing Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks Saturday (31/12) will be to keep the Slovenian superstar… below 50 points.
“50 is going to be our goal,” said Popovich. “We’re holding Luka to under 50,” he pledged with an emphatic tone and slammed his hand on the table.
Pop was obviously joking but his amazement for Doncic’s achievement is very real and very serious. The five-time NBA champion spoke with awe for Luka’s historic 60-20-10 triple-double, a unique feat in NBA history.
“I was thinking about… he had 60, 20 and 10,” Popovich said. “So 90. Has anyone ever scored 90 on a stat like that? Well… incredible.”
Doncic is on a roll and so are the Mavericks. Behind Luka’s second straight triple-double and eighth in the season overall, Dallas beat the Houston Rockets to register their fifth consecutive win. The Spurs come from a victory over the New York Knicks and will look to close 2022 with their second straight positive result.
