Sasha Vezenkov is having his best season yet in Europe, being a prime candidate for the EuroLeague MVP award, while Sacramento Kings assistant Jay Triano traveled all the way to Greece to watch him in person.
However, it seems he is not the only one watching. Asked on the matter during the All-Star media day, Sacramento Kings All-Star Domantas Sabonis had only good things to say about the Bulgarian forward: “Yes, I’ve watched him. He’s a great player, very talented. He’s playing great in Europe with Olympiacos. They’re doing amazing in EuroLeague. I don’t know what he’s thinking, but we obviously would love to have him here”.
For Sabonis, the answer is simple, the more shooters, the merrier: “Yeah, he can shoot the ball. For us, the more shooters, the better for us”.
Vezenkov’s NBA rights belong to Sacramento and while there was contact between the two sides last summer, he decided to stay with Olympiacos.
Vezenkov also recently extended his contract with the Greek club, however, the new deal still includes NBA out clauses, that can be used in the summer.
It should be noted that Vezenkov’s agents had already started talks at the time with Olympiacos for a possible contract extension. Practically the new contract with Olympiacos provides the player with more stability.
If the Kings really want to add him and present him with a financial offer that can be a token of their appreciation and practically guarantees him a solid presence in the team rotation, then anything can happen.
