As he confirmed, Kevin Love will join the Miami Heat for the remainder of the season after agreeing to a buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news, then Love’s former teammate Tristan Thompson and the 34-year-old center confirmed it on social media.

Just spoke to my brother Kevin Love. He’s confirmed he’s taking his talents to South Beach and the Miami Heat. This is a huge pickup for the Heat. Let’s go,” Thompson wrote, and Love responded, “Yes sir, my brother!!! Thank you for letting me bounce all of this off of you. Heat Nation, let’s go!

Love joined the Cavs in 2014 and won the NBA title in 2016, which ended the city’s 52-year pro sports championship drought. According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, he was in the final season of a four-year contract, with 8.500.000 dollars left on his deal at the time of the buyout.

Love requested a buyout with the Cavs after sitting out their final 12 games before the All-Star break.

This season he is averaging career lows in scoring with 8,5 points per game and rebounds (6.8) as a thumb injury has affected his shot.

Kevin Love also talked with the Philadelphia 76ers, and in addition to his acquisition, the Heat is also planning to sign free agent center Cody Zeller, Wojnarowski adds.
