During the NBA Night, another massive scoring performance was recorded, as Damian Lillard dropped 71 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, shooting 22/38 from the field, 13/22 from downtown, and being perfect at the free throw line (14/14) in 39 minutes on the court, in the 131-114 win against the Houston Rockets.
The 32-year-old point guard, who is averaging 32.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game in the 2022-23 Regular Season, became the fourth player in NBA history with a 71-point game, joining Elgin Baylor, David Robinson, and Donovan Mitchell, who had the same amount against Chicago on January 2.
“I enjoy those moments in the game when I’m just going after people when I’m in attack mode. I know I’ve got a lot of tattoos, but when you’re doing a blood draw, it’s different from tattoos. It brought me down from here to the floor. I think any hooper enjoys those moments when you’re hot, you’re in attack mode, and you’re feeling good. But it’s the stuff afterward that I struggle with, like when I walked off the court, was I supposed to be overly excited, or what?”, he said after his historic performance.
Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, which are 11th in the Western Conference with a 29-31 record, commented on his team leader’s performance after the win. “It really, really was a masterful performance. It was a piece of art. That was incredible”, he commented on Lillard.
