Interviewed by J.J. Redick in his podcast “TheOldMan&TheThree”, Bobby Portis explained the crazy story of how he ended up playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2020-21 NBA season.
Unlike what usually happens, the former Chicago Bulls was the one making the call to Wisconsin. “I called him myself and told him “Hey Giannis, I don’t know you and you don’t know me, but I promise I can help you win a championship. And six months later we won a championship. It’s one of the craziest stories ever. I signed with them in November 2020 and in July 2021 we won the chip”, he revealed.
In the 2020-21 season, when the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Miami Heat to win their 2nd ever NBA title, Bobby Portis averaged 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds to help them. In this season, he has been putting up almost a double-double per game, with 14.0 points and 9.7 rebounds.
