After the game, Avdija, who tied his career high with 25 points, spoke about the connection he shares with the Latvian player, who leads the Wizards in points, rebounds, blocks, and free throws.
“He wants the best of me, and I respect it. We come from similar paths. He came here young from Europe, he understands what I’m going through. In bad times, he’s there for me, in good times, he celebrates with me. I feel like we’ve established a great relationship. On his bad days, he uses me on elevating him. We’re always laughing and talking.” Avdija said.
Even though the Wizards are below play-in positions, sitting on the No. 11 spot in the East with a 34-42 score, the atmosphere in the team seems great.
“I feel like all of our team’s chemistry is good. Everybody is a human before being a player, which I think is the most important thing in the locker room. I feel like that’s the secret to a winning team. Of course, we didn’t manage to win a lot of games this year but it’s something you need on a team. I have a great relationship with KP but everybody is supportive.”
Avdija came to Washington as a ninth overall pick in the 2020 Draft. He slowly progressed and is now having his best season with 9,2 points and 6,5 rebounds on 44,5 FG% per game.
