As Adrian Wojnarowski reports, Memphis Grizzlies center Steven Adams will likely miss the postseason with a right knee injury, so the Tennessee side is reinforcing the frontline with rookie Kenneth Lofton Jr.
Adams has been out with a PCL strain since late January. The New Zealand center underwent a stem cell injection a month ago, but it seems unlikely that he will return to the pitch for the playoffs.
Another big blow for Western Conference’s No. 2 seed since Brandon Clarke had a season-ending Achilles injury.
Steven Adams joined Grizzlies in August 2021, and this season he was averaging 27 minutes on the court, scoring 8,6 points with 11,5 rebounds per game in 42 appearances.
With the news about his status, Memphis decided to sign two-way rookie Kenneth Lofton to a standard, four-year, 7.000.000 dollar contract.
Lofton was the G League’s Rookie of the Year, averaging 20,2 points, 10,4 rebounds, and four assists for the Grizzlies’ affiliate Hustle.
To clear a roster spot, Memphis is surprisingly waiving talented rookie Kennedy Chandler, who showed promise and had a long-term deal with the club.
Instead, Grizzlies decided to sign G League’s leader in assists from the Hustle, Jacob Gilyard, to a two-way deal.
