The tragic news of a teenage boy opening fire in a school in the Serbian capital of Belgrade just after lessons began on Wednesday morning, killing eight children and a security guard and seriously injuring several others, touched everyone, including Luka Doncic.
The Slovenian NBA superstar, who has Serbian heritage from the side of his father announced via his social media that he is taking action to support those involved in the tragedy.
As he wrote: “I am heartbroken by the tragic school shooting in Serbia and the loss of lives, including those of innocent children. My thoughts are with the families and the entire community affected by this tragedy.
Belgrade, I support and stand with you all during this difficult time. Through the LD77 Foundation, I am exploring both immediate and long-term ways to support the students, faculty, and families affected by the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School.
I am committed and I will continue to share updates and ways to support as details become available. #StandWithBelgrade”
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski Doncic will contribute for starters by paying for their funeral services. On top of that, Doncic will also contribute to grief counseling for classmates and staff.
Serbia has declared a three-day national mourning after this unprecedented incident.
