For weeks, the Milwaukee Bucks have been interviewing a plethora of candidates for their open head coaching job. It appears the Bucks are now moving into the next stage of the hiring process, as ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that the Bucks have narrowed their search. The list of Bucks’ coaching candidates now includes Nick Nurse, Kenny Atkinson, and Adrian Griffin. This is an interesting trio and likely not one that many would have predicted would be the final three.
First and foremost, not many should be surprised about Nurse’s involvement here. From the moment Mike Budenholzer was fired, many pegged Nurse as the best man to take the job. He checks off several boxes for the Bucks and could very well be the best coach on the market. It would not be surprising if he was named the head coach very soon.
Atkinson also makes a lot of sense, as he has prior head coaching experience and seems like he is ready to lead a team once again after recently serving as an assistant. Griffin is a bit surprising in this regard, as he’s the lone potential first-time head coach. However, there is clearly something the Bucks like about what he could potentially bring to the table in Milwaukee.
The two most surprising names left off this list are Monty Williams and Chris Quinn. For several days, it seemed like Williams was among the frontrunners for this job opening, but that is clearly the case no longer. Out of all of the potential first-time head coaches the Bucks were looking at, Quinn was among the favorites to land the head coaching gig, but that is not the case.
Out of these three candidates left standing, Nurse is Milwaukee’s best bet, as they’d be getting an experienced coach who has a title to his name. However, they are not alone in their pursuit of the champion, as the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns are biting at their heels. It will be quite fascinating to see which team ultimately lands Nick Nurse.
