According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 21-year-old Utah Jazz‘s center Walker Kessler has committed to play for Steve Kerr’s Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, starting on August 25 in Manila, Philippines.
The Auburn Tigers alumni, who previously played for North Carolina in the NCAA as well, had a great rookie season in the NBA, going close to averaging a double-double with 9.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in 74 regular season appearances with the Utah Jazz.
In the previous weeks, these players have reportedly committed to play for Team USA: Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Brunson, Bobby Portis (Milwaukee Bucks), Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves). Later on, both Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies) and Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans) reportedly joined the list.
Team USA will play in Manila’s Group C alongside Greece, New Zealand, and Jordan, and will likely advance to the second round to face the best two teams of Group D, which includes Egypt, Mexico, Lithuania, and Montenegro.
