The next opportunity for Chris Paul to finally win an NBA championship will be with the Golden State Warriors.
Following the trade from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards, CP3 moved on via another trade to the San Francisco franchise, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The compensation on the opposite path stretches from Jordan Poole to a 2027 second-round draft pick and a 2030 protected first-round draft pick, as noted.
Paul, 38, averaged 13.7 points, 8.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks per contest over 66 appearances between the 2022-23 Regular Season and the 2023 Playoffs. The Suns eventually opted in favor of Bradley Beal and traded away the experienced floor general. In turn, the rebuilding Wizards converted him for Poole and draft assets.
Coming out of Wake Forest back in 2005, he was selected fourth overall in the draft by the New Orleans Hornets. From building up a career currently highlighted by 12 All-Star Game nods, he was nearly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers with commissioner David Stern famously vetoing the deal and ended up with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2011. In 2017, he was traded to the Houston Rockets and moved on to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2019-20 season, before the three-year spell in Phoenix. Plenty of long postseason runs along the way but far from a championship ring.
Los Angeles Lakers trade up in the draft
The 2023 NBA draft with French generational talent Victor Wembanyama tabbed as the first selection and heading to the San Antonio Spurs is the major highlight of Thursday’s NBA schedule. Improving their selection status, the Lakers claimed the 40th pick and sent the 47th and cash to the Indiana Pacers, per Wojnarowski.
