The Victor Wembanyama era has officially started. After being selected as the No. 1 in the 2023 NBA Draft, the 19-year-old French generational talent has landed in San Antonio to start his overseas adventure with the Spurs, becoming an instant hero following the lights of David Robinson, Tim Duncan, and more.
Hundreds of fans shouted “Wem-VP” to welcome the former Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 player, even with temperatures reaching 37 degrees. Already the biggest fan-favorite in the city, Victor Wembanyama could debut in the 2023 NBA Summer League on July 7 against the No. 2 pick Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets.
“I know how enthusiastic they are, especially with the No. 1 pick in the draft. The city has always loved the Spurs, so their loyalty to the team does not change, regardless of the pick we choose and what year we are in”, Gregg Popovich said about the reception of fans in San Antonio.
