The Pelicans have not picked up the team option on Willy Hernangomez ($2.6m) and did not extend the qualifying offer to Jaxson Hayes, per multiple reports.
The Spanish big man is a free agent after this turn of events and a return to Europe can’t be excluded for the MVP of the previous EuroBasket.
Despite his performance with the Spanish national team, Hernangomez didn’t get a real chance to play with the Pelicans during last season, spending most of his time on the bench.
It goes without saying that Spanish powerhouses and especially Real Madrid might be interested in him and they might not end up being the only suitors.
After all, Hernangomez is 29 years old and still considered one of the best European bigs of his generation.
