Sasha Vezenkov made his decision and will move his talents to the Sacramento Kings.
Vezenkov, 27, will pen a three-year, 20 million dollar contract, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Reporting earlier Saturday, Eurohoops noted the official offer to the reigning season MVP of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague being presented with an annual salary offered near the room exception ($7.7M) and correctly projected his final decision of moving to the NBA or not in the next few hours.
With forward Trey Lyles reportedly reaching an agreement to return to the Sacramento Kings and also forward Harrison Barnes staying with a three-year $54M deal, Vezenkov might be the first addition on the roster in the free agency.
The Bulgarian forward began his basketball career in Cyprus, where he was born, before moving to Greece to play for Aris Thessaloniki. He quickly made a name for himself as a promising young talent and attracted the attention of European clubs. In 2015, he signed a contract with FC Barcelona.
During his time with the Spanish club, Vezenkov got his first chance to compete in the EuroLeague, the top-tier European basketball competition, but didn’t get much playing time and gradually lost his place on the team rotation.
In 2018, Vezenkov joined Olympiacos Piraeus. He continued to contribute as a key scorer and played an important role in the team, steadily improving his stock.
He finished the season making it to the Final of the EuroLeague Final Four and winning every other possible individual or team accolade.
