Two years after officially ending a long playing career and five years since his last appearance on the court at the professional level, Beno Udrih is set to become the fourth head coach in the history of the Wisconsin Herd.
Udrih, 41, will take over the affiliate team of the Milwaukee Bucks in the G League, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic Wednesday evening.
The retired player from Slovenia served as a scout for the Atlanta Hawks, a development coach at the New Orleans Pelicans, and an assistant coach with the Westchester Knicks of the G League over the last three seasons.
Playing days with NBA, EuroLeague, and Slovenia
Udrih logged 884 games played in the NBA between the Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Bucks, and Sacramento Kings between 2004 and 2017. Early in his career, he was crowned NBA champion as a member of the Spurs in 2005 and 2007.
Moving in and later out via trade, the spell with the Bucks lasted from the start of the 2011-12 season to midway through the 2012-13 season. He made his way to 98 regular-season games.
His Turkish Airlines EuroLeague experience extended to 69 appearances, including 17 in the 2017-18 edition of the top-tier club continental competition of Europe, wrapping up his playing days at Zalgiris.
Representing Slovenia, the international portion of his playing days included the 2006 FIBA World Cup, and EuroBasket in 2003 and 2005.
