Pursuing a trade away from the Philadelphia 76ers, James Harden traveled to Colorado and joined the training camp.
The most recent development was reported by multiple NBA insiders, including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Sharing moments from team practice on Wednesday, the 76ers later confirmed the arrival of Harden.
Harden, 34, missed the 2023 NBA Preseason Media Day on Monday. Apart from himself directly fueling the trade request, the ensuing reports revealed intentions to make the situation as uncomfortable as possible. He is expected to extend the push toward getting traded elsewhere in the league.
After opting in for the 2023-24 season, the experienced combo guard has one year left in his contract. However, he requested a trade citing team president of basketball operations Daryl Morey as the main reason. The Los Angeles Clippers have emerged as his preferred destination.
The 2022-23 season was his first full campaign with the 76ers and 14th overall in the NBA. The 2018 season MVP, named in the All-Star Game for ten years in a row from 2013 to 2022, tallied 20.9 points, 10.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per contest between the Regular Season and the Playoffs.
NBA Preseason Schedule
The Sixers launched the training camp on Tuesday without Harden. Moving into friendly action in the Preseason, they will travel from Colorado to Boston to meet up with the Celtics on Sunday. Returning the favor with a home game opposite the Celtics on October 12, facing the Nets in Brooklyn on October 16, and welcoming the Atlanta Hawks on October 20 are the remaining exhibition games, before tipping off the 2023-24 Regular Season schedule.
