Pablo Laso, Luka Doncic’s former coach at Real Madrid, talked about the Dallas Mavericks superstar and the difficulty that comes with being one of the best players in the world.
“Being the best player is very difficult because, in the end, you’re going to be judged if your team wins,” Laso said when asked what Doncic needs to do to become the best player in the world. “Because you’re not playing by yourself. This doesn’t happen in tennis.”
“This is a team sport,” Laso added.
“Luka, for me… I don’t know if he’s the best player but he’s one of the best players. And that speaks very well about him and the way his career has been all these years. I’m very happy that he received that homage last night. They all cheered him. He deserved it. He’s a great player and he gets all that back in his country in Slovenia but at the same time he grew up in Madrid since he was 13. I’m very happy for him. I think he’s having a great career. I think he’s one of the best players in the world.”
Laso, now at the helm of Bayern Munich, coached Doncic for the Slovenian player’s entire run with the Real Madrid senior team. He trusted him to become a steady member of the squad at 16 years of age in 2015-16 and helped him evolve into a superstar and a EuroLeague MVP.
Τhe two-times EuroLeague champion met with Greek media before the game against Panathinaikos and talked about the upcoming contest, coaching Bayern, the rumors about him before ending up in Munich and more.
