The Milwaukee Bucks were forced down to 1-1 with a loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the first edition of NBA Sundays for the 2023-24 Regular Season.
Damian Lillard was limited to six points and 2/12 shots from the field. The new point guard of the Bucks was struggling to find options against the Hawks‘ defense. Supporting his teammate, Giannis Antetokounmpo did not sound the alarm, so early in the campaign. He was instead keen on moving forward to the next game.
“I know how good he is,” explained the Athens native, “At the end of the day, we need him to keep shooting, we need him to keep on being great, and we have him. We did not win the game but he is our guy now.”
“I did not shoot the ball well. I think it was just a tough game,” was Lillard’s immediate reaction. Besides being held to six points and committing six turnovers, he tallied five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
The Freak posted a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double alongside three assists, two blocks, and one steal in the losing effort.
“We are only going to be successful when he is aggressive and when he is playing with high confidence,” Antetokounmpo added on Lillard adjusting to his new surroundings.
Looking to bounce back from the loss to the Hawks and improve to 2-1, the Bucks will complete a back-to-back in Fiserv Forum with the Miami Heat visiting on Monday.
