Being down also by 20 points during the game, the San Antonio Spurs managed to come back against the Phoenix Suns bringing up a 33-19 run in the fourth quarter and winning 115-114, finally bouncing back after their 40-point defeat against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Most importantly, this was the clash between two eras. The past – and still present – one of Kevin Durant, who had 26 points and 7 assists in the defeat, and the future with Victor Wembanyama, who contributed to his team’s thrilling win in the end with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Keldon Johnson, who made the decisive contested layup to give San Antonio the first and ultimate lead of the game, was Gregg Popovich’s team’s highest scorer with 27 points, while Jeremy Sochan dropped 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Coming off the bench, Cedi Osman had 9 points.
The Phoenix Suns were still without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal (“There’s no timetable [on their return], they’re working very hard to get back as soon as possible”, Frank Vogel said), but Jusuf Nurkic made his best effort in the eventual loss: double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds with 4 assists.
James Harden saw his new team win against Orlando
Suited up for the game, James Harden didn’t debut with the Los Angeles Clippers straight away against the Orlando Magic, but his team still managed to get the 118-102 win with Ivica Zubac going close to a double-double with 9 points and 9 boards.
In the loss, Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero combined for 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Moritz Wagner provided 13 points with 4/7 from the field and 5/6 at the charity stripe coming off the bench. In the third game of the NBA Night, New York beat Cleveland with an 18-point margin (109-91).
