German World Champion Daniel Theis is expected to leave the Indiana Pacers and move to the LA Clippers where he will join in the front court Croatian big man Ivica Zubac.

Per Shams Charania’s report, the Pacers are in serious talks with the player on a contract buyout, which would clear the way for him to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers pending a physical exam. He agreed on a contract buyout, according to an update reported by Adrian Wojnarowski. And was officially released later Wednesday.

Per the press release: “The Indiana Pacers announced on Wednesday the team has waived center Daniel Theis.”

The 31-year-old power forward played with the Boston Celtics for four seasons before a trade brought him to the Chicago Bulls in March 2021. The Bulls traded Theis to the Houston Rockets in August 2021, who in turn traded Theis back to the Celtics in February 2022, before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in July 2022.

With the Celtics, he reached the NBA Finals during his second stint with the team. However, his biggest achievement by far is winning the recent FIBA World Cup with the German national team in September.

Theis played a pivotal role averaging 10.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, beating on the way to the gold Team USA in the semifinal game.

Returning to the NBA for a seventh campaign, he has been limited to one brief appearance in the 2023-24 Regular Season. Adding to speculation regarding a new challenge, he was recently sidelined by the Pacers due to personal reasons.
