The latest developments regarding multiple former NBA players arrested in 2021 for defrauding the NBA Players’ Health and Welfare Benefit Plan are connected to Glen Davis and Will Bynum convicted on Wednesday.

“While many of the more than 20 defendants convicted in this case were well-known NBA stars, their conduct was otherwise a typical fraudulent scheme designed to defraud the NBA’s health care plan and net the defendants over $5 million in illicit profits,” noted U.S. Attorney Damian Williams in a statement, “Today’s conviction exemplifies that despite notoriety or success in sports or any other field, no one is exempt from criminal charges if they engage in fraud.”

In August, fellow former NBA player Terrence Williams was sentenced to ten years in prison, after pleading guilty to planning the false claims. Submitting various bogus medical claims generated a sum of at least five million dollars, according to prosecutors. Upon federal investigation, multiple former NBA players were arrested in 2021.

Bynum, 40, lasted eight seasons in the NBA, including a six-year stint with the Detroit Pistons. Using his overseas options, he emerged as a leading player for Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2006 to 2008. He later displayed his talents in Turkiye and China.

Davis, 37, also played eight seasons in the NBA. His rookie campaign was combined with winning the championship as a member of the Boston Celtics. Coming out of LSU, he was selected with the 35th pick of the 2007 draft.
