Nikola Jovic had a great 2023 FIBA World Cup, winning the silver medal with Serbia, and it was expected that he would have much more playing time this season with the Miami Heat.
Unfortunately, he has only played two games since the start of the 2023/24 season and even moved to the G League to play for the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He dominated in his first game there, scoring 26 points in front of the eyes of Jimmy Butler.
The experienced U.S. forward and leader of the current Heat squad made the trip to Wisconsin just to watch Jovic and Miami’s affiliate G League team in action. After what he saw, Butler believes there’s a bright future for the Serbian forward in the Florida team.
“Niko. Got to go see my boy. I’m a huge Niko fan. I think he’s going to help this organization well after I’m done here. That’s my dawg. I love him to death,” Jimmy said, per Anthony Chiang.
Miami is 9-5 at the start of the season, sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, with Jovic averaging 6.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two appearances. He is still to play in November for Erik Spoelstra, who recently spoke highly of the Serbian national team player.
