Connecting unlikely passes is certainly his thing. Still, Luka Doncic opting to find Josh Green on the opposite corner through the legs of LeBron James is special.
The prolific guard posted a 30-point, 12-rebound double-double as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday. The specific assist, one of his eight for the evening, stood out.
Doncic, 24, detected the narrow lane providing a nutmeg bounce bass to Green. James did not expect it nor did his teammate. But the amazing play was capped off with a three-pointer en route to improving to 10-5 in the 2023-24 NBA Regular Season.
“A win is a win,” said Doncic in the postgame press conference, eager to move on from the first of two consecutive games in Los Angeles. Back to Crypto.com Arena, the Mavs take on the Los Angeles Clippers on the upcoming installment of NBA Sundays.
James, 38, supports the Slovenian superstar, constantly praising him over recent years. On the receiving end of an incredible nutmeg, the approach did not change.
“Wherever he wants to. It is up to him,” he replied to a question about where Doncic can go in his career, “Obviously, we know what he is capable of doing on the floor. That is why the question is up to him.”
Over 14 appearances in his seventh NBA season, Doncic has been effective, shooting 50% from the field, tallying 30.6 points, 8.1 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per contest.
