With Mitchell Robinson likely to be sidelined for an extended period, the New York Knicks have taken action by signing Ukrainian big man Dmytro Skapintsev to a two-way deal.

Standing at 2.16 meters tall, the center was part of the Knicks’ Summer League roster, subsequently securing a contract with the team only to be waived in September.

He then transitioned to the G League, where he played for the Westchester Knicks, averaging 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 18.6 minutes per game. Skapintsev is now poised for a second chance in the NBA.

His professional journey commenced with his hometown team, Cherkaski Mavpy, where he spent six years. In 2021, he made a move to Kyiv-Basket. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which led to the suspension of the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague season, Skapintsev finished the year with Pieno žvaigždės in Lithuania.

Additionally, he represented Ukraine in the 2022 EuroBasket, playing in two out of five group stage games but was not part of the lineup in the Round of 16 loss to Poland.
