Another milestone for Luka Doncic. In his 358th career appearance, he went over 10,000 points in the Regular Season of the NBA. He was set to hit the mark on Christmas and delivered, combining a 50-point showing with the latest achievement and a win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday.
With 4:52 remaining in the first quarter, he became the seventh-fastest player to surpass 10,000 points in league history. “When these awards come with a win, it is even more fun,” commented the Slovenian superstar, “It was a tough road game and we won. Outside of the 10,000 and 50 points, we won the game, so I am happy.”
Doncic, 24, was unstoppable on Christmas Day. The Suns double-teaming did not slow him down. Furthermore, he became the fourth player to score at least 50 points on Christmas, joining Bernard King, Wilt Chamberlain, and Rick Barry on the list. “Congratulations to Luka for getting to 10,000 so fast,” reacted head coach Jason Kidd, “And to be with the likes of Bernard King, Wilt and Rick Barry, that is pretty cool.”
Prevailing in Footprint Center behind a history-making performance of the team leader, the Mavs went up to 18-12 in the 2023-24 Regular Season. “I love playing in these environments,” said Doncic, “When you make a shot, the whole gym is quiet. So that is the best feeling in the world.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers visiting the American Airlines Center is up next on Wednesday.
