Organizing a special farewell with a celebration game in the summer of 2024, Goran Dragic’s official retirement from the game of basketball was announced, as reported by the Slovenian outlet SiOL.net. The two organizers of the event, Spontanzo and the Goran Dragić Foundation, said it would last two days.

Starting his career in Slovenia back in 2003, Goran Dragic played for the first time outside of his country with Murcia in the 2006-07 season on loan from Baskonia, where he returned during the 2011 NBA Lockout.

Being selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 45th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, he then went on to play six years in Phoenix, interrupted by the 2011-12 season in Houston, and then another six years with the Miami Heat.

In the last years of his career, he represented Toronto, Brooklyn, Chicago, and finally the Milwaukee Bucks. He’s an All-Star (2018), and he was named Most Improved Player in 2014, making the All-NBA Third Team in the same season.

Captain and MVP of the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket won with the Slovenian national team, he’s an absolute icon of the country. One day Luka Doncic will surpass him, but he’s the Slovenian player with the most official appearances (90) and the most points scored in all competitions representing his country (1.760)

The 37-year-old will present the details of the event with a press conference in Ljubljana, scheduled for next Thursday, with the presence of other important figures like the mayor of the city Zoran Janković, and the organizer’s representative Matej Avanzo, revealing some of the participants’ names.
