Joining FanDuel’s Run It Back NBA show, Metta Sandiford-Artest, known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, spoke in the highest regard about San Antonio Spurs wunderkind Victor Wembanyama.
Artest compared him to the one and only Wilt Chamberlain.
“He is the closest to Wilt Chamberlain that we’ll ever see… Wilt averaged 13 points his first year, and 20-plus rebounds, but I think this kid is going to beef up and get better. He’s going to run into a Detroit Pistons from this year, or the Clippers from 20 years ago, and he’s going to go get 101 at some point in time in the next seven years,” Artest said.
He explained how he sees Wemby scoring 101 happening.
“He’s gonna for sure catch a rhythm with some rookie that can’t guard, don’t know how to deny, can’t backdoor, making a ton of mistakes, and boom… 101 pieces, averaging 40.”
The praise didn’t stop there, as the former NBA champion sees Wembanyama going in the footsteps of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“Even though Chet Holmgren is having a better year, but he’s on a way better team. The kid is going to be special, especially when he beefs up. Remember Giannis? He was just some string beam running out there, and now he’s like a force. I think Wembanyama is going to be like that,” Artest concluded.
