The latest checkpoint for Victor Wembanyama was debuting in the TD Garden. The next challenge will be facing former teammate Bilal Coulibaly after a break at the top end of a back-to-back for the San Antonio Spurs.
“I wish I could play both,” he referred to the away games versus the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards on Friday and Saturday, “Of course I am excited to play against Bilal. I was trying to be detached from this and just say, ‘I’ll trust the coaching staff, and what they want me to do.’ But of course, I am happy to play Bilal.”
Coulibaly, 19, was his teammate at Metropolitans 92 in France’s Betclic Elite through the 2022-23 season. Following Wemby being selected with the first overall pick of the 2023 draft, he was picked up by the Wizards with the seventh selection.
On Wednesday, Wembanyama registered 27 points lasting 27 minutes in a losing effort against the Boston Celtics. “Sometimes it is hard to realize,” he admitted regarding playing in Boston for the first time in his career.
Falling to 7-33 in the Regular Season, the 2024 Playoffs are certainly out of the picture for the Spurs.
“I expected anything,” mentioned the French prodigy, “I know it is going to take some time before we can be contenders for the title. I was ready for anything. And I am still ready to sacrifice. I am patient, but I am not wasting time. I trust us for the long term.”
