The Milwaukee Bucks have parted ways with Adrian Griffin and are expected to hire Doc Rivers as his replacement. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards also made a head coaching change, as Wes Unseld Jr. is moving to the front office.
Unseld will transition to an advisory position, and the Wizards appointed top assistant Brian Keefe to interim head coach for the rest of the season before conducting a comprehensive search for Unseld’s long-term replacement in the offseason.
“I am grateful to have served as head coach of the Washington Wizards,” said Unseld in a statement. “I look forward to this new opportunity to work toward our organization’s continued progress.”
Unseld concluded his coaching stint with the Wizards with a record of 77-130 after taking on the role in July 2021.
“After several thoughtful conversations with Wes, we determined together that a change was needed for the benefit of the team. Wes embodies the characteristics we value in our organization, and his vast basketball experience will be an asset to the front office as we progress toward our long-term goals. We are thankful that he will continue his contributions to our organization and community,” said Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger in a statement.
The Wizards traded Bradley Beal last summer and ended up with Jordan Poole as his replacement. Despite adding a couple of young players to strengthen their youthful core, they have only recorded seven victories in the 2023/24 season so far. They currently stand ahead of the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference standings with a score of 7-36.
