Adam Silver is on the verge of signing a new deal to continue serving as the NBA commissioner, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Per his report, Silver is finalizing a contract extension that is expected to take him through the end of the decade. The new deal will enable him to pursue major objectives, such as securing a new media rights deal and exploring league expansion.

Silver joined the NBA in 1992, taking on diverse roles within the league. By 2006, he rose to the positions of chief operating officer and deputy commissioner under his mentor David Stern. Following Stern’s retirement in 2014, Silver assumed the role of commissioner.

Throughout his tenure, Silver has spearheaded significant changes in the NBA, introducing play-in and in-season tournaments, implementing player participation rules, and reforming the draft lottery to discourage tanking.

Recently, as NBA commissioner, he finalized a new collective bargaining deal with the National Basketball Players Association, ensuring labor peace until at least 2029. The agreement also introduces a revamped salary cap system, aiming to level the playing field for smaller-market teams against larger-market franchises.
