Before last night, the only player able to score 60 points after turning 35 years old was Kobe Bryant on his retirement game against the Utah Jazz in April 2016. Steph Curry wrote history once again, but the Golden State Warriors lost against the Atlanta Hawks 141-134 in overtime.
One of the best playmakers ever had 60 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, shooting 10/23 from three-point range. “It sucks to not have something to show for it”, the superstar commented in the game’s aftermath, showing his disappointment for the defeat.
The Hawks still found the victory also thanks to its European players. Clint Capela had a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds, shooting 8/11 from the field; coming off the bench, Bogdan Bogdanovic had 13 points in his team’s OT victory.
In a turbulent 2023-24 season, Steph Curry has been averaging 27.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, shooting 40.9% from beyond the arc and 93.0% at the charity stripe, being named among the reserves in the Western Conference for the All-Star Game.
He was praised by teammates and opponents after such a night. “It just seems he continues to get better, which is special at his age”, Draymond Green said. “They’re a lot more fun when you win. You always want to battle, you always want to compete, you want to show your best against the best. Steph [Curry] was obviously going in that second half”, Trae Young followed.
