The latest trade involving Davis Bertans centers on Gordon Hayward shifting from the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Bertans, 31, is part of a deal between the NBA teams, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Barring another move, the Hornets will be his fifth NBA challenge following the Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and San Antonio Spurs. His contract is partially guaranteed for the 2024-25 season.
Alongside the Latvian forward, Tre Mann is part of the compensation for the Hornets as well, as noted.
Since joining the Thunder via trade in July, he tallied 2.9 points per game behind 38.5% field goals and 41.7% from beyond the arc. Bertans is a veteran of 492 appearances and five trades in the league based in North America. Moving exclusively via trade throughout his NBA career, he was moved immediately after being selected with the 42nd overall pick of the 2011 draft by the Indiana Pacers to the Spurs. His debut in San Antonio followed five years later, to start the 2016-17 Regular Season.
Before completing the jump to the NBA, the Valmiera native developed his talents in Europe and made it to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. From 2011 to 2016, he logged 61 appearances between Laboral Kutxa, Partizan NIS/mt:s, and Union Olimpija.
Last summer, Bertans was a key player for Latvia ranking fifth in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Further experience in major international tournaments stretches to the 2011 and 2017 editions of EuroBasket.
