The Detroit Pistons got a French guard in Evan Fournier, but they are releasing 2021 No. 7 pick Killian Hayes, per Shams Charania.

The 22-year-old French-American professional player is set to become a free agent mid-season, which is not what you expect from a lottery pick.

The son of basketball player DeRon Hayes was born in Lakeland, Florida but grew up in France due to his father’s professional career.

From a young age, Hayes played with French club Cholet, won the gold medal, and earned MVP honors with France at the 2017 FIBA U16 European Championship. He led his team to a silver medal at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.

However, all this didn’t translate to the NBA. The silver lining is that he is still very young and he can restart his career, especially if he decides to return to Europe.
